The Italian citizenship is granted by birth through the paternal line (with no limit on the number of generations) or through the maternal line (for individuals born after January 1, 1948).  Apart from the certificates that the applicant is required to produce in order to confirm the eligibility for dual citizenship, it is also necessary to make this documentation acceptable and valid for the Italian authorities that will examine the file and grant the Italian citizenship. All documentation must be translated into Italian by a certified translator and subsequently brought to the Italian Consulate, and accompanied by another document called an “Apostille“.
